Francisco State University
As a part of the College of Extended Learning, SFSU offers an
undergraduate certificate for Spanish/English Legal and Court
Interpreting. Designed for professional development and for passing
the court certification exam, this program takes as little as
16 months to complete. Admission requirements include 56 credit
hours of previous college work, bilingual proficiency, and the
passing of a written Spanish/English examination.
• University
of California at Riverside
One certificate is available at UCR in both translation and interpreting,
and includes training from English to Spanish as well as Spanish
to English. The program is useful in various fields including
law, medicine, business, education, and other community settings.
The 5 required courses can be completed within as little as one
year, in the proper sequence, and students must maintain a B average.
Enrollment is contingent upon a qualifying exam, and audiotape
determining fluency in the language, and 2 years of college level
work.
• Wake
Forest University
Two distinct Spanish/English certificates are obtainable at WFU.
The first in Spanish Translation and Localization, STI, introduces
the translation techniques and application of software, concentrating
also in stylistics and grammar. The Spanish Interpreting certificate
offers an introduction to interpreting along with a background
in translation/linguistics. Both involve an internship to use
learned skills in a professional environment.
