The benefit
of the graduate programs offering a focus in Translation is that
they do not limit concentration in other area, and combines translation
techniques with other useful abilities.
• Binghamton
University (New York)
This MA is quite similar in style to Binghamton's TRIP translation
certificate but is applied to an area in the Arts and Social Sciences.
The translation training can be formally applied to a Masters
in Comparative Literature, Romance Languages, Social Sciences,
and Education (with and MS also offered.) Even though these five
areas have formal translation tracks, the translation focus can
be applied to any other Master's degree program. Languages offered
are French, German, Korean, and Spanish into English.
• City
University of New York
The CUNY Master's degree is a part of a more general Liberal Studies
program. One of the many focal opportunities, a specialization
in French, German, or Spanish to English Translation is offered.
Two courses from the chosen area are combined with interdisciplinary
courses, providing flexibility to meet individual interests.
• University
of Texas at Dallas
UT at Dallas supports a Master's degree in Writing and Translation
that is a liberal studies education. The Spanish/English Translation
is literary, and the completion of the degree requires 30 semester
hours. Also required to graduate, students must submit a portfolio
of significant work.
No other university in the United States offers a PhD program
that includes translation. This doctorate in Philosophy requires
60 semester hours is an extension of the MA. A dissertation and
the passing of a qualifying examination are also part of necessary
curriculum.
